Synopsis:

Roberto Marquez is an immigrant of Mexican descent who came to the United States some 40 years ago as an undocumented person. After many years of back breaking work, untold stories, and a soul full of repressed creativity; Roberto decided to artistically portray the struggle of the undocumented immigrant that attempts and succeeds crossing the USA border. His art breaks down barriers, that speaks for millions of people who've come to this country for hundreds of years with the intention of providing a dignified future for their families.

When we learned about Roberto Marquez's story and his artistic work, we saw a Mexican artist who portrayed the drama of people who are searching a dream and pursuing a better future in the USA. His work first and foremost represents people like us, from places like ours, who sometimes don't have many opportunities. We strive to demonstrate in this film that by doing great art, you can transform the world, you can uplift others up and lend a hand to people escaping harsh circumstances. Through art, we dream about a world with no borders, no differences, and no social or racial affliction. From Roberto's story, we expand on the vision of millions of immigrants who have come to this country to help build a better society, a better future, and a better world. We always want to keep in mind and make people know, that the quest for survival is natural, borders are not.

Christopher Marquez

Producer

From a very early age Christopher always knew that words have the power to open doors or create destruction. His Father, Roberto, early on inculcated the importance in developing communication skills, something he himself always felt that he was lacking; so he introduced him into the world of great orators and speech masters. This was the beginning of fully realizing the power of presentation and delivery of the spoken word. In 2008, he discovered acting by chance, by participating in a small role in a short film at the University of North Texas. Soon after and filled with a new vigor, he joined Golden Ceiba Productions an independent film production company as Vice President, where he got his start in the indie world and later moved on to greener pastures. Since then, he has starred in such films as Habana Instant, The Strike, and has participated in shows and films such as Queen Sugar, Queen of the South, The Suicide Squad, DMZ, Black Lightning, and MacGyver. In 2018, Christopher along with his friend Felipe Barrientos embarked on their directorial debut in the documentary El Paracaidista, which explores themes of cultural and social significance that he finds close to his heart, one of which is immigration.

Juan Felipe Barrientos

Producer

Felipe was born and raised in Medellin, Colombia where thanks to his upbringing, he learned that a human must have a foundation, in his case it was family, academia and his sports background which all played an integral part of his life. In his early days he began his development as an athlete which gave him the discipline for his studies as an engineer, and eventually led him to his journey as a choir singer, and theatre actor.

Once he finished school at the University level, he moved to the United States. Here, he worked a plethora of jobs that gave him a larger perspective on the human drama that all immigrants in North America endure. 15 years later, his dream of working in the Hollywood industry became true. He started working on the hit 20th Century FOX tv series, Queen of the South. He was nominated Best Actor in the short film category in the Long Island Film Festival in New York for his work in Mortal Dilemma.

His interests later propelled him to the wonderful world of film, where he later became a producer in Golden Ceiba Productions, where he produced the films, The Strike and Blue Family. In 2018 he co-founded 369 Cinema with his friend Christopher Marquez, a production company that develops fiction and documentaries with a focus on social and humanitarian issues. 'El Paracaidista' will be his first Co-directing and Co-producing credit and debut as a company.
